Pre-K: The ABC, 123 block will be filled with activities that gently introduce academic learning. We will begin our block with circle time which will include songs, stories, calendaring, and more. Each child will have a Montessori-style workbook and will engage in hands-on activities to promote learning.
The Free Play block gives time for our early learners to practice social skills and engage in imaginative play.
The Once Upon a Time block will feature a different classic storybook and related projects and activities each week. This literature-based learning will help give your child a love of books and learning.
Grades K-4: Our elementary learners will experience an introduction to the scientific world through our Science classes, which are on a typical classical-style 4-year rotation (Biology, Chemistry, Earth Science, Physics) beginning in 3rd grade. Even very young learners can grasp the basics of complex scientific principles through the hands-on approach and engaging materials included in our chosen curriculum (R.E.A.L. Science Odyssey). Children in grades K-2 will have a dynamic introduction to Science through rotating unit-based studies such as Marine Biology, Weather, and Electricity. They will be using The Good & the Beautiful Science units with additional supplementary materials.
The History/Geography/Literature block will support learning from Story of the World, and is also on a classical-style 4-year rotation (Ancient World, Middle Ages, Early Modern, Modern Age). Experience History in a new and exciting way through hands-on projects, art, games, edible crafts, and more! Each week we will learn more about modern-day countries that correspond with the History lessons, and we will study beautiful literature together that also connects to the period of History being studied.
Our Rotating Unit Studies & Art block will consist of 6-week studies of rotating topics (e.g. the Constitution, Aeronautics, Gardening, Fairy Tales, etc.). Each unit study will involve at least one art project, literature, and other exciting activities.
Grades 5-8: Our middle school students will be split for Science, given the need for more mathematical instruction in upper grade Science courses. Grades 5-6 will join grades 3-4 for a very thorough introduction to the core facets of scientific study on a 4-year rotation (Biology, Chemistry, Earth Science, Physics). Using R.E.A.L. Science Odyssey, students will experience solid learning opportunities through the many engaging hands-on experiments and activities. Grades 7-8 will have a more rigorous approach with some homework, while still participating in hands-on activities and experiments each week. They will use Apologia for Physical Science and R.E.A.L. Science Odyssey for Biology.
As in our elementary grades, the History/Geography/Literature block will support learning from Story of the World. Weekly reading and notebooking at home will be expected. Learners will share their notebooking and insights each week, discuss reading from beautifully written, historically relevant novels, and participate in fun group activities that will solidify understanding and retention. They will also study original documents together.
Our Art class will be combined with the high school students and will offer instruction on basic artistic principles such as line, shape, space, color, and value. These principles will be reinforced by art projects in a variety of styles and using different mediums.
Grades 9-12: Our high school students will have the opportunity to participate in thorough college-preparatory Science courses, also on a 4-year subject rotation. Using Berean Builders (written by Dr. Jay Wile, an Apologia writer), students will do the bulk of their instructional learning at home, with optional online lectures available. Our co-op time will be used for the laboratory portion of the course so students can participate in exciting experiments, dissections, and more in a group setting.
Our History & Literature block will focus primarily on classical literature discussion and analysis that corresponds with the Ancient World, the Middle Ages, Early Modern History, or Modern History (rotating on a 4-year basis). These discussions will help students think more deeply about the materials they are reading and explore themes expressed in literature while gaining a greater grasp of historical context.
Our Art class will be combined with the middle school students and will offer instruction on basic artistic principles such as line, shape, space, color, and value. These principles will be reinforced by art projects in a variety of styles and using different mediums.
