Beacon Hill Homeschool Community started with a small group of families who enjoyed getting together for field trips. As we discovered that we were using many of the same materials to teach our children, forming an academic cooperative seemed like a natural step to take. We wanted to create something that would support at-home learning by providing a space for things difficult to experience at home--like messy hands-on projects and experiments, group discussions, and presentations.
The name Beacon Hill was inspired by our desire to fill our children with light--through both rigorous academic training and an emphasis on moral development--and then to encourage them to share their light with the world through community engagement and civil discourse.
We seek to achieve this by offering an academic cooperative that supports at-home learning for core classes and elective courses, planning wholesome events in the community, and incorporating service projects into our activities.
